November is Canada Career Month – Online!

November is Canada Career Month. COVID-19, however, has forced the cancellation of career fairs and events within schools and in the community for perhaps the whole of the 2020-2021 academic year. Learn how events across Canada have been adapted to take place online. Share with colleagues how your schools have had to adapt for 2020-2021.

On the Move: Stories of Career Resiliency

“Canada Career Month” is an initiative of the Canadian Career Development Foundation (CCDF), an organization that seeks to improve access to career services and career education. This year’s theme is “On the move: Stories of Career Resiliency.”

The CCDF offers a showcase of events happening across Canada, provides resources, and invites career development professionals to submit their stories. Go to the On the Move site.

Meet and talk with real people working in a range of occupations and sectors.

Teachers and guidance counsellors who organize career fairs might pick up a few new ideas from the CCDF 18-page resource pack for organizing a “human library.”

Career events during COVID-19

ChatterHigh has always been an online platform and provides career and education exploration activity in a gaming format all year long. Annual competitions are held in the fall and spring. See  below for previous articles on ChatterHigh. Go to site.

The Learning Partnership (TLP) went online this year with its annual Grade 9 event: Take Our Kids to Work Day. This year’s slogan was “Bigger, Better, Virtual.”

Your Future, Now is an inspiring, 20-minute pre-recorded event that was designed to kick off TOKW on November 4th. No worries! The messages of hope and resilience shared from a range of workplaces and professionals bring to life real-world skills that lead to success and are worth viewing any day of the year. Go to video.

Four breakout sessions (SKILLED TRADES, INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP, HEALTHCARE, and TECHNOLOGY AND FINANCE) were held the day of the event, and the recorded presentations and accompanying activity sheets are still available online: Go to site.

The TLP also has an Educators’ Guide for 2020 that can be used beyond November 4th. Go to Download.
