On the 20th anniversary of Take Our Kids to Work™ Day, a young man from CQSB’s St. Patrick’s High School shadowed none other than the Education minister, Yves Bolduc, while a young woman from EMSB’s Royal West Academy learned what it’s like to be an executive at L’Oréal Canada.

Teachers at Netagamiou School in the Lower North Shore community of Chevery were already integrating GOAL into their classrooms, whether they called it that or not. But how much more could be accomplished, they wondered, if they took stock of their individual efforts and fashioned them into a school-wide action plan?
The POP Index may have been created by MELS to support the career exploration process of students in the Personal Orientation Project (POP), Exploration of Vocational Training and Entrepreneurship courses. But any high school student, teacher or guidance counsellor would find it useful.
Every day, teachers work hard to cover the curriculum even as students ask “Why am I learning this? What can it do for me?” But just watch those same questions evaporate the moment students comprehend how math, English or biology can set them on a career path that they are passionate about. (more…)
