ALDI Update-October 2021
Here is an overview of professional development initiatives, past and current. New resources are available through the ALDI website. Use the links to access them.
On August 23rd, 2021, ALDI hosted an Inclusive Co-teaching Workshop. This workshop provided resource teachers with a step-by-step guide on how to work collaboratively with classroom teachers to support students through independent and small group conferencing. We discussed Individualized Education Plan (IEP) conferences and the use of double conference tables to maximize support to students. This session was repeated at the QPAT Annual Convention on October 14th, 2021.
On August 30th, 2021, ALDI collaborated with New Frontiers School Board (NFSB) Consultants
to host the first Resource Teacher Networking Session of the 2021-2022 school year. This session focused on early literacy practices, The Comprehensive Instruction Guidebook, and the role of the resource teacher. Over the 2021-2022 school year, remedial and supporting teachers from NFSB will learn about specific topics pertaining to resource and have an opportunity to network with colleagues. Our next session will be at the beginning of November and will be about IEPs.
On September 29th, ALDI and LEARN collaborated in hosting a bilingual Literacy Networking Session. The focus was on Misunderstandings and Facts about Literacy. These one-hour afterschool sessions will be offered multiple times over the 2021-2022 school year. Our next session will be on Nov. 24th from 4:00-5:00pm. Information and registration forms are sent out to Special Education/Inclusive Education Pedagogical Consultants and through various social media websites (see social media contacts below). Watch for the LEARN blog post (Coming soon!) for a complete write-up of the Sepember session. Archived material is posted on the ALDI website under Literacy. Click here to access the material.
ALDI, Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board and LEARN are collaborating and have released a Reader
Response Toolkit. The toolkit is designed to support Secondary English Language Arts and Supporting Teachers by providing them with a bank of engaging reader response activities. A follow-up networking session will be provided in early 2022 for Secondary Teachers wishing to provide feedback on the toolkit, share their expertise and discuss how they implemented the reader response activities to support student learning. The toolkit has been added to the ALDI website under Literacy. Click here to access the toolkit.
Unfortunately, COVID-19 is still among us. Should your class close, resources are available to support you. Click here to access the resources.
